75th CIRP General Assembly Held in Turin

Aug 31, 2026
The 75th General Assembly of the International Academy for Production Engineering (CIRP) took place in Turin from 23 to 29 August 2026, marking the first time in the Academy’s history that its flagship annual conference has been hosted by this historic industrial capital.
Co-organised by the National Institute of Metrological Research (INRIM) and the Politecnico di Torino, the event was co-chaired by Professor Alessandro Balsamo of INRIM and Professor Luca Settineri of Politecnico. It drew over 700 delegates from 34 countries, including more than 60 representatives from industry – a testament to the enduring bridge between academic research and industrial application that CIRP embodies.
This year’s Assembly held particular significance as it coincided with the 75th anniversary of the Academy’s founding. The opening ceremony, staged at the iconic Lingotto Conference Centre – itself a symbol of Turin’s industrial heritage – was honoured by an address from Italy’s Minister of Enterprise and Made in Italy, alongside a welcome from CIRP President Dr. Alessandro Balsamo.
Under the central theme “Turning Knowledge into Growth”, the scientific programme ranged across precision measurement, advanced machining, additive manufacturing and circular economy, while placing special emphasis on frontier disciplines such as artificial intelligence, digital twins, atom‑scale manufacturing, collaborative robotics and low‑carbon production. Turin, with its deep‑rooted automotive and aerospace sectors, proved an apt setting, offering a unique atmosphere that vividly illustrated the region’s ongoing transformation towards smart and sustainable manufacturing – and fostering rich exchanges between academia and industry.
A highlight of the closing sessions was the presentation by Professor Fengzhou Fang, on behalf of the Chinese organising committee, of the preparatory framework for the 76th CIRP General Assembly. Professor Yongda Yan from Harbin Institute of Technology followed with detailed operational and logistical plans for the upcoming edition. The 2027 Assembly will be held in Beijing, and delegates expressed widespread enthusiasm at the prospect of reconvening in the Chinese capital next year to continue the Academy’s proud tradition of scientific excellence and international collaboration.
